Topic:  Hospice vs Palliative Care: Helping Our Patients Navigate the Complexities of a Terminal Illness.   Presented by: Cara Donaldson, LCSW-BACS, CCM, MBA.  During this workshop participants will :  1. Define Palliative Care and Hospice - differentiate between the two 2.  Establish the main differences in terms of goals, timing, and scope of care 3. Increase the understanding of the Medicare Hospice benefits and the 4 levels of care 4. Differentiate the Myths from the Facts in End-of-Life Care 5.  Understand the role of the Social Worker in supporting patients facing a life-threatening illness and their families 6. Understand the role of the Death Doula.  2.00 Clinical hours.  Pre-registration is required to be awarded CEU credit.

Presenter Bio

Cara Donaldson is an LCSW-BACS that earned her MSW from Louisiana State University and began her career as a Hospice Social Worker. She developed a passion for helping individuals navigate the complexities of a terminal illness, focusing on enhancing the quality of life and ensuring dignity and comfort in the final stages of life. Cara then spent 10 years of her career in hospital Case Management credentialing. She obtained her Certified Case Management certification (CCMC) and became an Aging Life Specialist through ALCA. In 2023, Cara went through the training to become a certified End-of-Life Doula and returned to working full-time with Hospice patients and their families. Cara's goals for today are to raise awareness about hospice care and the importance of compassionate end-of-life support.
