2418: Language Justice and Therapy

2418:  Language Justice and Therapy.  Language Justice and Therapy combines therapy language and ethics.  It brings attention to common words and phrases used by clients and therapists that can have unintended and unhelpful meanings. These meanings are often grounded in existing cultural biases. The workshop identifies some common phrases linked to cultural biases and strategizes how to work with these phrases with clients. Presented by:  Joseph V. Keegan, LCSW.  Member: $50 / Non-Member $85.  3.00 Clinical or Ethical CEU. Pre-registration is required to be awarded CEU credit.


Directions: The training will be held at Thibodaux Regional Health Systems in Multipurpose Rooms A & B.  Park in the front of the hospital and come in the Main Entrance. Walk through the Lobby past the Café and then the elevators on the left and turn left down the hallway. The entrance to the Multipurpose room is the double doors past the stairwell on the left. Presenter Bio

Joseph V. Keegan, LCSW has 42 years of experience in child welfare, mental health, education, therapy, teaching and homeless services.  He currently consults about data, outcomes and child welfare services.  He has taught at LSU School of Social Work, served on the LSU Institutional Review Board and retired six times, so far. He is married for 37 years, has four daughters and 2 grandchildren. He loves teaching, supervision, research and trauma focused services.
