2201: Substance Use Disorder and Chronic Pain in Older Adul
2201: Substance Use Disorder and Chronic Pain in Older Adults. Problematic drug use, of which opioids make up the most significant proportion, had been incorrectly assumed to end as patients age. This training will focus on the similarities and differences between treating an older adult population compared to younger and middle-aged adults and discuss the impact of chronic pain on substance use. Social Work participants will increase their understanding of substance use disorder, the unique issues and psychosocial factors impacting older substance users, and how it affects their overall healthcare. The session will cover effective ways of working with older adults using prescription substances or nonprescription substances to manage their chronic pain. Presented by: Kate Lufkin, DSW, LCSW-BACS. 3.0 Clinical. $50 Members/$85 Non-Members.
