New Orleans Region - Navigating the Intersection of Trauma,
254100_010: "NASW-LA New Orleans Region Sponsored Workshop" FREE for Members. Topic: Navigating the Intersection of Trauma, Substance Abuse, and Criminal Justice: A Clinical Approach. Presented by: Candice Sorapuru, LCSW-BACS and Kierra Sorapuru. During this workshop, participants will: 1. Understand the intersection of trauma and substance abuse in individuals involved in the justice system. 2. Apply trauma-informed principles to addiction treatment focusing on the unique needs of justice-involved persons. 3. Identify and address systemic barriers that impact service delivery within the criminal justice system. 2.00 Clinical hours. Pre-registration is required to be awarded CEU credit.
Presenters Bio
Candice Sorapuru, Co-Founder/Director of Clinical Services for Innovative Approaches Counseling Center, LLP, Adjunct Professor at Tulane University School of Social Work, Consultant for the Louisiana Department of Education and Orleans Parish Criminal Court, brings over 20 years of experience to her work. Mrs. Sorapuru has specialized in School Social Work, Substance Abuse, Mental Health, Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, and Criminal Justice. She earned her Master of Social Worker from Tulane University School of Social Work and is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Social Work at the University of St. Thomas, MN. A native New Orleanian and a dedicated mother of three. She is deeply committed to serving her community.
Kierra Sorapuru is a newly licensed Social Worker currently employed as a Qualified School Social Worker (QSSW) for Jefferson Parish Public Schools. She earned her Master of Social Work from Tulane University School of Social Work and is currently completing the requirements for her License in Clinical Social Work (LCSW). She is extremely passionate about supporting and empowering the New Orleans area youth, families, and communities through mental health awareness and education.
