Monroe Region - Enhancing Civic Engagement Through Voter Edu

254100_011: "NASW-LA Monroe Region Sponsored Workshop" FREE for Members. Topic:  Enhancing Civic Engagement Through Voter Education. Presented by: Crystal Rommen, LCSW and Billy Anderson.  During this presentation:   1. Learners will be able to identify how voter education aligns with core social work values and social work’s Code of Ethics.  2. Learners will be able to define civic engagement and three ways they can promote in electoral participation.  3. Learners will be able to demonstrate knowledge of how to check voter registration and link with state-specific Voter’s Bill of Rights.  4. Learners will apply basic principles of voter engagement by practicing writing postcards to registered voters in swing states.  1.0 General hour.  Pre-registration is required to be awarded CEU credit.

Presenters Bio

Crystal Rommen: As a licensed clinical social worker, Crystal Rommen brings a diverse background to her position as director of Louisiana Families for Vaccines. She graduated with her MSW from the University of Washington in Seattle with a concentration in Community Centered Integrative Practice. She has worked in direct client practice for the past 13 years, expanding her role to include community organizing and advocacy. Her work spans inpatient, outpatient, and community levels of care for individuals and groups throughout the lifespan. She is passionate about the intersection of public health education and social justice advocacy to empower individuals and communities to improve social determinants of health. Crystal has presented at state and national conferences to train and equip community leaders to promote immunizations at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels.

Billy Anderson: In his role, Billy works to register and actively engage voters of all ages, emphasizing underserved and underrepresented communities. He also works to educate and raise awareness about local, statewide and federal elections by working with a coalition of North Louisiana partners and community organizers. Billy is a proud millennial and Shreveport native and has a passion for helping nonprofits achieve their goals and mission. He sits on the boards of the Shreveport-Bossier African American Chamber of Commerce, Red River Revel, Highland Area Partnership, The Art of Gentlemen Inc., and New Leader Council of Louisiana. He is one of the founders of Shreveport-Bossier Black Restaurant Week and works to promote local restaurants with his web series BillyEats.

Billy has a life mission to break down barriers and lessen the obstacles that people of color face when it comes to basic human necessities or in their pursuit of happiness.
