New Orleans Region - Building Resilience: Navigating and Con
254100_016: "NASW-LA New Orleans Region Sponsored Workshop" FREE for Members. Topic: Building Resilience: Navigating and Conquering Compassion Fatigue in the Social Work Profession. Presented by: Jasmine Harkless-Thomas, LCSW-BACS. This presentation will: (1) Provide an overview of exposure trauma and the connection between social work and vicarious trauma. (2) Review the signs, symptoms of vicarious trauma and treatment recommendations for social workers. (3) Discuss key points of what does it mean to be trauma informed in social work and how to avoid stress and burnout in the social work profession. (4) Raise awareness of the effects of vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue on social workers and their ethical conduct. Offer insights into the NASW Code of Ethics, focusing on self-care and cultural competence. (5) Provide participants with vital resources and tools to strengthen their resilience when working with other populations, and to minimize the risks of vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue. (6) Increase participants self-awareness about the importance of coping mechanisms and self-care strategies in reducing burnout and stress. (7) Equip participants with practical coping skills to manage the impact of vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue, including guided meditation, relaxation techniques, and the creation of a personalized self-care plan.. 2.00 Clinical hours. Pre-registration is required to be awarded CEU credit.
Presenter Bio
Jasmine is a highly skilled and experience Licensed Clinical Social Worker - Board Approved Clinical Supervisor (LCSW-BACS) born and raised in New Orleans, LA. She obtained her undergraduate degree in social work from Clark Atlanta University and her graduate in social work degree from Barry University. Currently, Jasmine is pursuing her doctoral degree while focusing on public health and research, particularly in the field of suicide prevention among BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) youth. Jasmine's passion for suicide prevention has led her to work towards expanding the availability of services for Louisiana youth and their families. She brings valuable research expertise and experience in this area to her role as the Suicide Prevention Specialist at the Office of Behavioral Health/Louisiana Department of Health. In addition to her work in the public sector, Jasmine is also the proud owner of Metanoia Therapy Services, a private practice that focuses on promoting recovery and healing with the BIPOC community. Her practice operates from a trauma-focused and strengths-based approach, reflecting her belief that everyone has the capacity for change and that recovery is attainable. Outside of her professional pursuits, Jasmine prioritizes self-care, which includes enjoying visits to Starbucks, taking daily walks and spending time at the library. She also cherishes moments with her family and takes pride in being a devoted mother to her sons.
